AI Tools Available to IAS Scholars

As part of our comprehensive IT service and support mission, IAS is committed to providing scholars with access to a variety of AI tools to meet their research needs, subject to the Institute's Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools for Research Policy and Guidelines.

IAS currently offers access to three types of AI tools:

  • Advanced: high performance AI models with high usage limits
  • Specialist: tools intended to support specific technical use cases
  • General: licensed specifically for IAS scholars, these are widely available tools that are good for experimentation and daily productivity tasks

For the 2026-2027 academic year, IAS will offer individual scholars up to $200 per month to allocate toward the Advanced and Specialist AI tools of their choice, with the option to mix and match tools as needed. In addition, General AI tools will be available to all scholars at no cost. Eligibility for this benefit begins on the first day of a scholar's appointment and ends automatically on their last day.

Advanced Use Tools

Advanced Use tools must be accessed through a user-specific invitation to an enterprise subscription that has been pre-negotiated by IAS.  This ensures these tools are used as safely and securely as possible.  Currently, IAS offers the following Advanced Use tools:

ChatGPT Pro

 IAS scholars are eligible for ChatGPT Pro - OpenAI's highest-performing AI tool - through a ChatGPT Education Pro account, which provides access at the highest level.  This access is provided free of charge, and can be requested through your IAS Computing Helpdesk.

Claude AI

Claude.ai is Anthropic's AI tool. To request access contact your IAS Computing Helpdesk.

NOTE- We are currently on the Enterprise plan which does not support tiers. Scholars can opt to set a monthly spending limit by using some or all of their $200/mo allowance. To request this contact your IAS Computing Helpdesk.

Specialist Use Tools

IAS will reimburse scholars for their use of these tools, up to the monthly limit of $200. Scholars will be allowed to mix and match tools as needed (including Advanced tools), up to the total monthly limit of $200. 

To qualify for reimbursement, you must complete the AI Reimbursement Program Opt-In Form.

General Use Tools

General use tools are available to all scholars in the IAS community, and can be accessed following the instructions provided below.  

You.com Pro

You.com Pro provides scholars access to over a dozen leading AI models, including those from OpenAI, Anthropic, Amazon, and Meta. The tools offer a chat-based interface and allow for the creation and customization of specialized agents that can be trained and targeted for specific purposes.

Access to You.com Pro is obtained through standard IAS single sign-on. To get started, visit you.com, log in with your IAS email address, and follow the Duo prompts.
