Director Robbert Dijkgraaf on 2018 Abel Prize Winner Robert P. Langlands

“If you think about mathematics as an archaeological excavation—many mathematicians think not of inventing something, but discovering—then some of us might find a small fragment, others might find a beautiful treasure. Robert Langlands found the equivalent of the Rosetta Stone,” said IAS Director and Leon Levy Professor Robbert Dijkgraaf as part of the Abel Prize activities honoring 2018 winner Robert P. Langlands, Professor Emeritus in the School of Mathematics.
