Understanding Text Formats

You can choose between the text formats that are available to you. To discover all the features of a text format, follow the “about text formats” help link which is next to the text format selector.

Below is a short summary of each text format.

Editor Text Formats

Basic HTML

Basic HTML is intended for everyday use. It has the visual editor and all the essential formatting tools, plus some special features. Editors should use Basic HTML in most cases.

Basic HTML + Math

Basic HTML + Math includes math symbol processing in addition to the features of Basic HTML.

Dangerous Text Formats

These dangerous text formats do not restrict the allowed HTML tags at all, which represents a severe security risk. These text formats are available only to IAS Computing technical staff members. Avoid using dangerous text formats.

Full HTML

The Full HTML text format has the same special features as Basic HTML.

Full HTML + Math

Full HTML + Math includes math symbol processing in addition to the features of Full HTML.

Full HTML Unfiltered

Full HTML Unfiltered is Full HTML but without any special features.
