Email Protection with Link Re-writing

In order to protect our clients from malicious links in email, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) utilizes a link re-writing system.  This system leverages a database of known threats to alert you that a link you clicked on has been found to be dangerous.

The system works by wrapping links sent in email with a redirect.  Malicious websites will be redirected to a page that looks similar to this.

Website has been blocked page describing general reasons why the site may be blocked

If the original site had a link that looked like this:

https://www.internetbadguys.com/path/payload.html

It will be re-written to look like this:

https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.internetbadguys.com/path/payload.html__;!!NubF!J2xR9rA_YSeN1sPkuVXForUiS9nX8k8-0_18akE2wnZBzDC5z5yFvmpE1Y5eQt2glwN4i36s$

Notice that the original link is inside the new link between the double underscores, "__".

If the site is not flagged as dangerous, this system will transparently direct you to the intended site.  If you get the block page and think it is in error, please contact your computing helpdesk.
