From the Proceedings of the International Congress of Mathematicians:

"The limitations of space and time make it impossible for Manin to review Drinfield’s contributions referred to above, and he shall concentrate upon the two subjects that were Drinfield’s main preoccupation in the last decade. These are Langlands’ program and quantum groups. In both domains, Drinfield’s work constituted a decisive breakthrough and prompted a wealth of research."
