Bordism, QFT, and a topological invariant of certain lattice systems

Many features of Wick-rotated field theory are captured by an axiomatization using bordisms of smooth manifolds. There are many variations which have been extensively studied, particularly for conformal and topological field theories. I will give an introduction to this point of view, which has applications to ordinary quantum field theories as well. The application in this talk is to the classification of "invertible" gapped phases in condensed matter physics.
