Wei Ho

From May 17–22, the Institute's School of Mathematics welcomed 35 students, educators, and researchers for its annual WAM program. Exploring the theme of "Waves, Wave Packets, and Their Interactions," this year's lectures discussed Fourier restriction theory and the KdV equation.

This May, the Institute for Advanced Study hosted its annual WAM program, a weeklong mathematical symposium for educators, students, and researchers that explored the theme of "Convexity and Combinatorics in Algebraic Geometry."

From May 19–24, the Institute welcomed 40 students, educators, and researchers from across the globe for its annual Women+ and Mathematics (W+AM) program. As well as providing a glimpse into the Langlands program, this year's lectures discussed examples and applications of Deligne-Lusztig theory.

The 2023 Women and Mathematics Program took place from May 21–26, bringing together 31 students, educators, and researchers from universities around the world to participate in a series of lectures, problem sessions, research seminars, and special talks around the theme "Patterns in Integers."

"Earlier this year, a trio of mathematicians decided to make lemons into lemonade — and ended up making major headway on a problem that mathematicians have been thinking about for centuries."

"Like many people who would go on to become mathematicians, Wei Ho grew up competing in math contests. In eighth grade, she won the Mathcounts state competition in Wisconsin, and her team took third place at nationals."

The 2022–23 academic year sees new Director and Leon Levy Professor David Nirenberg welcome new and returning Members from 36 countries, representing approximately 107 academic institutions worldwide.

Wei Ho, Visiting Professor in the School of Mathematics, has been named as the first Director of the "Women and Mathematics" (WAM) program at IAS. During her five-year appointment she will lead the annual, award-winning program, which has the mission to recruit and retain more women in mathematics.
