Protecting Against Spam and Phishing at IAS

Proofpoint Spam Prevention

IAS employs software called Proofpoint which identifies spam and other malicious messages and prevents their delivery.

Proofpoint operates on all IAS email, inbound to IAS, outbound from IAS and even between users at IAS.

Messages to you which are believed to be spam are "quarantined" for your protection. This means that the messages are held on our server, and each morning you will receive a digest showing all such messages. You can interact with this digest to request messages be released, to release a message and add the sender to your approved senders list, or to mark as message as Not Spam. You can look for this digest in your Junk folder in Zimbra.

You can also login to the Proofpoint server directly via https://pps3.ias.edu/ at any time to check for quarantined spam.

It is a good idea to check your Spam Digest routinely. Proofpoint, while very good, is not perfect and legitimate messages can end up being filtered as spam from time to time.

If a message you were expecting appears to not have arrived check your Spam - Quarantine folder in Proofpoint. If you still can't locate the message, contact the sender (by alternate means if possible) and ask them to resend it. If you continue to have issues receiving email from a particular sender, contact your school help desk for assistance.

If a message you send is identified as spam it won't be found in your Spam - Quarantine folder in Proofpoint. If you send a message and think the recipient may not have received it, contact them by alternate means if possible and have them check their own spam folder first and if the message is not located at that point, contact your school help desk.

Anti-Phishing

IAS Computing also works diligently to minimize the number of phishing emails you might receive. For more information on this, please see:

Should you receive an email you believe to be a phishing attempt, please forward it to phish@ias.edu
