Ford's project, "Our Secret Society: America’s Forgotten Black Philanthropists for Racial Justice," is a cultural-economic history of the Civil Rights movement that explores how Black women raised millions of dollars for movement organizations by hosting lavish galas, fashion shows, and card parties for an interracial audience.
