At IAS, Pier Mattia Tommasino plans to write a book on Orientalism, science, and philology in sevententh-century Florence, which he likes to describe as an exercise in microhistory and world philology. It will explore the role of Oriental studies among Galileo’s students between 1666 and 1711.
