Jesse Spohnholz is writing a history of a Dutch settlement begun in the German lands in 1562. Frankenthal, as it was called, was a refugee community, a utopian experiment, a colony within Europe, and an exercise in state building. This research puts early modern mobility and re-settlement taking place within Europe in global perspective.
