David Nirenberg featured on Mayor Freda’s Princeton Podcast

Princeton Mayor Mark Freda welcomed David Nirenberg, IAS Director and Leon Levy Professor, as a guest on the 44th episode of his Princeton Podcast. In this "enlightening look into one of Princeton's significant institutions," Freda and Nirenberg discussed the Institute's distinctive strengths as a place where each year, scholars can be assembled to discuss issues "where we think discovery is most fruitful, most pregnant, and most necessary" in their given discipline. They also spoke about the continuing legacy of some key figures from Institute history, including Albert Einstein, John von Neumann, and J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Finally, they touched on how the Institute serves as a resource for the local community, including how it plays a role in making the small town of Princeton "punch far above its weight in terms of its intellectual place in the world." In Nirenberg's words, "the Institute isn't just here to nurture the intellects and the potential for discovery of people from all over the world. It's also there to nurture the intellects and potential for discovery of Princetonians."
