Irving Lavin

Irving Lavin (1927–2019), Professor Emeritus in the School of Historical Studies, joined the Institute Faculty in 1973. One of America’s most distinguished art historians, he wrote extensively on the history of art from late antiquity to modern times. His interests focused primarily on the correlation between form and meaning in the visual arts.
