FAA Security Tips for Air Traveler

There are four international airports which serve the area. Newark Liberty International is the preferred airport for travelers because of it's proximity and ease of both Public and Private ground transportation options to and from the Institute for Advanced Study. Newark Liberty International and Philadelphia International airports are both approximately one hour from Princeton by private car or limousine, and about two hours by public transportation, assuming no delays. JFK International and LaGuardia International airports are each approximately two hours from Princeton by private car or limousine, and about four hours by public transportation, assuming no delays.

 

State Shuttle (formerly Olympic Airporter)
(shared transportation to Newark Liberty, JFK, and Philadelphia International Airports)

State Shuttle offers an economical shared ride service to and from Newark Liberty, JFK International, LaGuardia, Atlantic City, and Philadelphia airports connecting with several locations in the Princeton area, including the Institute for Advanced Study. Please check their website for current rates. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, travelers checks, and cash are accepted. Passengers are permitted two large suitcases and one carry-on per person. Oversized luggage will be loaded on a space available basis. With their shared ride service, there are a couple of stops on the route. The trip to Princeton can take up to 1.5 hours from Newark Liberty and Philadelphia airports, and up to 3.5 hours from JFK and LaGuardia airports, assuming no delays.

  • ARRIVALS: If traveling from the airport to the Institute, upon arrival, call State Shuttle to make or confirm your reservation.
  • DEPARTURES: Passengers traveling from the Institute to the airport are met in front of Fuld Hall. Please be there at least 10 minutes prior to departure.

 

Airport Rail Service (Public Transportation)

AirTrain Newark is the regional rail transportation station at Newark Liberty International Airport, on the Northeast Corridor Line. Passengers traveling to Newark Liberty International Airport may take the New Jersey Transit train from Princeton/Princeton Junction to the new Newark Liberty International Airport Rail Link station, which is situated close to the airport terminals. At the Rail Link station, passengers transfer to the AirTrain and ride directly to the airport terminals. New Jersey Transit ticket vending machines are located at all regional rail stations. You may purchase your ticket with a credit card, debit card, or cash (approximately $12.05 airport station to Princeton Junction.) Ticket vending machines accept credit cards, debit cards, or US currency. Passengers boarding without tickets will be subject to a $5.00 surcharge if ticket vending machines are available, or the ticket office at their boarding station is open. New Jersey Transit trains have limited space for baggage.

  • from Newark Liberty International Airport - passengers may take the AirTrain to the rail link station, where they should transfer to the New Jersey Transit train to Princeton Junction Train Station on the Northeast Corridor Line. After arriving at the Princeton Junction Train Station, you may take a cab or use the local commuter train ($1.80- Princeton Junction to Princeton Station) to Princeton Station (located on Princeton University campus,) which is approximately one mile from the Institute for Advanced Study. Trains have limited space for baggage.
  • from Philadelphia International Airport - take Septa's (215-580-7800) R1 Airport Line to 30th Street Station and transfer to the SEPTA train to Trenton, where you'll connect to the New Jersey Transit, Northeast Corridor Line train to Princeton Junction/Princeton.  Trains have limited space for baggage.

  • to Newark Liberty International Airport - from Princeton Junction Train Station, you take the New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor Line to the Newark Liberty International Airport train station. Then take the rail link from there to you your terminal. Trains have limited space for baggage.
  • to Philadelphia International Airport - from Princeton Junction Train Station, take the New Jersey Transit, Northeast Corridor train to Trenton. From Trenton, take the SEPTA Trenton Line to the 30th Street Station (30th and Market Streets) and transfer to the R1 Airport Line, which will take you directly to the airport. Trains have limited space for baggage.

A-1 Limousine (Private Transportation)

A-1 Limousine offers direct private car service to and from all major area airports: Newark Liberty, Philadelphia, JFK, and LaGuardia airports. Reservations are required and should be made at least one week in advance. Be prepared to provide your airline and flight number, your scheduled arrival/departure time, destination, and a major credit card number to guarantee the reservation. All major credit cards are accepted. A-1 Limousine drivers meet their arriving passengers at the baggage claim area posted for their flight (or for international arrivals, outside the US customs area). Reservations may be made online or by calling 609-951-0070 (from outside the US) or 1-800-678-2154. Parking and tolls may vary according to time parked and route taken.

 

Concorde Limousine (Private Transportation)

Concorde Limousine, offers direct private car service to and from all major area airports: Newark Liberty, Philadelphia, JFK, and LaGuardia International Airports. Reservations are required. Be prepared to provide your airline and flight number, your scheduled arrival/departure time, destination, and a major credit card number to guarantee the reservation. All major credit cards are accepted. Concorde Limousine drivers meet their arriving passengers at the baggage claim area posted for their flight (or for international arrivals, outside the US customs area). Reservations may be made online or by calling 732-577-0023 (from outside the US) or 1-800-451-2490. Parking and tolls may vary according to time parked and route taken.
