The I.D. card is a fully programmable, encrypted multi-function card. It is issued to people requiring access to buildings after normal business hours or to restricted areas. Cardholders on campus for thirty days or more may have the card provisioned to charge meals in the IAS Dining Hall. The issuance of a card for a stay of thirty days or more requires a photograph of the cardholder. An I.D. card automatically reactivates if the cardholder returns to IAS for future visits.
Temporary Door Access Cards
Upon your arrival at IAS, you will pick up a packet of information from the Reception Office at Fuld Hall. Included in that packet is a temporary access card which will operate your apartment door lock only. Use your temporary door access card until you obtain your personal ID card on the next business day. Keep your temporary door access card until you are sure that your personal ID card is working on your apartment door. When you are sure your identification card is working properly, return your temporary door access card at the Reception Office in Fuld Hall.
Please seek assistance from Public Safety (609-947-5940) or by dialing extension 5460 from any IAS phone, if you have difficulty in gaining access to your assigned housing unit.
To obtain a photo I.D. card
The ID Card station is located in the duplicating area in the lower level of B Building, near the mail room. Photos for new I.D. cards may be taken between the hours of 9AM-10AM or 3PM-4PM, every business day.
Photo Identification Card Programmed Access
Cardholders are granted standard permissions to access their apartment door, and to enter buildings after normal business hours. Other restricted areas may be accessed if authorized and the I.D. card is programmed with specific permissions. Cardholders can have access to the Fitness Center, Piano Room and other amenities simply by requesting such access when they obtain their photo identification card.
Photo ID cards are issued to those here for more than 30 days, and permit the cardholder to charge meals in our dining facility. Family members can use their photo ID cards in the dining facility as well, provided that this use is approved by the primary card holder.
Problems with Temporary Door Access Cards or Photo ID Cards
Problems with temporary door access cards or photo identification cards can be addressed by visiting Administrative Services, located in the lower level of Fuld Hall, during regular business hours.
Faculty and staff I.D. cards will expire and be replaced after five years, ensuring that photos are updated periodically. Member cards will have expiration dates tied to the end date of their appointment, as specified in the P3 database. This will be revised and automatically updated if their appointment is changed.
Members, Visitors, and Visiting Associates are provided an I.D. card. There will be a charge at cost for replacement cards. The current cost of an I.D. card is $10.
All spouses/companions are eligible for photo I.D. cards upon request free of charge but will be charged a $10 fee for a replacement card.
Lost or Stolen I.D. card
If an I.D. card is lost or stolen, it must be reported to IAS Public Safety immediately by email firstname.lastname@example.org, or by telephone at extension 5460. The original card will be disabled immediately, and a new card will be issued. The newly issued card will replace the previous card.
