Since my senior thesis (Princeton University 1977) written under the direction of W. Thurston,
I have been fascinated by locally geometric structures on low-dimensional manifolds. The diversity of different geometries on homogeneous spaces of Lie groups leads to many different mathematical tools to apply to the classification of structures on manifolds.
