Jalali's research centers on nonlinear dynamical systems and chaos, optimal control theory, and high-performance numerical methods to solve the kinetic Boltzmann equation. His Petrov-Galerkin and Finite Element methods are capable of computing the entire eigenspectra of galactic and protoplanetary disks, including spiral and bar modes.
