His main research engages with modern Chinese environmental literature (ecocriticism), film, and history. His research interests also include science fiction, infrastructure studies, and military studies. He is the author of Contested Environmentalisms: Trees and the Making of Modern China (Stanford, 2025). He plans to study Chinese military culture during his IAS visit.
