Bella Tendler, a research assistant to Particia Crone, is interested in Islamic heterodoxy. Her current research focuses on secrecy, esotericism, and initiation among the Nusayri-Alawis of Syria. In the coming year, she will study the survival of libertine and antinomian rites in some Nusayri communities of the nineteenth century.
