Institute For Advanced Study Appoints Edward Nicoll Trustee
Edward J. Nicoll, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Datek Online Holdings Corp., has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Advanced Study.
Datek Online Holdings, a financial services and technology enterprise, is parent company to four operating units, each a separately managed subsidiary: Datek Online Brokerage Services LLC, the nation's fourth largest online brokerage; iClearing Corp., which provides clearing services to brokerage firms; Big Think, a developer of software systems for the financial services industry; and The Island ECN, a computerized trading system.
Nicoll was named to his present position in 1999.
Before joining Datek, Nicoll was cofounder and president of Waterhouse Investor Services, Inc., which, under his leadership, became the nation's second largest discount brokerage firm.
He is also a trustee of the New Community Foundation, which serves residents of inner-city Newark by providing housing, day care, health care, job training, welfare-to-work assistance, and economic development services.
Nicoll holds a J.D. from Yale University Law School, the first student to be admitted to the Law School with no prior college experience; while at Yale he was appointed a fellow of the Olin Center for Studies in Law, Economics, and Public Policy.
