David Pietz is Regents Professor of History & UNESCO Chair in Environmental History at the U of Arizona. Publications include The Yellow River, Engineering the State, and State & Economy in Republican China. His current project is, “Death and Life on the Yangtze.” He's been funded by Guggenheim, Carnegie, NSF, NEH, and Mellon.
