Fireside Play Reading
My Lord, What a Night by Deborah Brevoort (2021)
Tuesday, April 14, 2026 | 7:00 p.m.
Fuld Hall Common Room
Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the Institute community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 p.m. on several evenings during the year in the Fuld Hall Common Room. The readings are not performances, so you do not need to be experienced. Everyone is given a part to read, but if you prefer to just listen, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!
We will be reading My Lord, What a Night, by Deborah Brevoort (2021). In 1937, after giving a concert in Princeton, acclaimed contralto Marian Anderson is denied lodging at the Nassau Inn because she is Black. Physicist Albert Einstein invites her to stay at his home, which marks the beginning of a lifelong friendship based on their shared love of music and commitment to human rights. Inspired by actual events, the play explores the struggles faced by two icons of the 20th century during a highly divided era in American history.
