Fireside Play Reading
Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the IAS community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 pm on several evenings during the year in the Fuld Hall Common Room. The readings are not performances, so you need not be experienced. Everyone is given a part to read, but if you prefer to just listen to the play instead of reading a role, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!
We will be reading Kyoto, by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson (2024). Welcome to the Kyoto climate summit, on 11 December 1997. The nations of the world are in deadlock as they seek to reach a negotiation for the first legally binding emissions targets. Time is running out, and agreement feels a world away. The greatest obstacle: American oil lobbyist and master strategist, Don Pearlman. In this sharp, searing and darkly comic story of the moment all nations try to set aside their differences for the sake of the planet.
