Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) Colloquium

ABSTRACT: A private, independent academic institution in Princeton, New Jersey, the Institute for Advanced Study is one of the world's leading centers for theoretical research and intellectual inquiry. Founded in 1930, it exists to encourage and support curiosity-driven research in the sciences and humanities. Diverse scholars including Albert Einstein, Erwin Panofsky, John von Neumann, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Freeman Dyson, Kurt Gödel, George Kennan, Clifford Geertz, Joan Wallach Scott, and Edward Witten have all made the Institute their home as they sought to explain the mysteries of the universe and expand the way we think of our world. This talk will provide an overview of the history of the Institute and highlight some of its key contributions to the world of ideas.
