Former School of Social Science Member Named to Royal Society of Canada

Anver Emon, Member (2014–15) in the School of Social Science, has been named to the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists, and Scientists. Emon has made significant contributions to understanding the relation between Islamic law and other legal traditions, with ground-breaking studies of its relation to natural law theories, human rights law, and religious pluralism. Emon has also received the Royal Society of Canada's Kitty Newman Memorial Award, which recognizes outstanding emerging Canadian scholars in the field of philosophy.
