Maria Hsiuya Loh, Professor of Art History in the School of Historical Studies, is an internationally recognized expert in the field of early modern Italian art and theory. She is best known for her work on Venetian art of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, particularly Titian and the numerous copies and variants that his works have inspired. On November 10th, Loh will give a special talk for Friends Circles members "A Pear, a Sphere, a Maze, a Flash, and the Incinerated Wings on the Donkey: Dosso Dossi's Meditation on the Dangers of Hubris,” about a painting in the Philadelphia Museum of Art by Italian Renaissance painter Dosso Dossi, as an allegory against ambition and hubris.
