Fireside Play Reading
Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the IAS community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 pm on several evenings during the year in the Fuld Hall Common Room. The readings are not performances, so you need not be experienced. Everyone is given a part to read–but if you prefer to just listen to the play instead of reading a role, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!
We will be reading A Child of Science by Gareth Farr (2024). In 1978, pioneering doctors Patrick Steptoe, Robert Edwards and embryologist Jean Purdy changed the world of fertility as we know it. Faced with fierce criticism and hostility and hounded by the media for 'playing God' they achieved the impossible – the birth of a baby through in vitro fertilization. A Child of Science charts the incredible events that paved the way for millions of IVF babies born since then.
