Fireside Play Reading
Einstein's Gift by Vern Thiessen (2003)
Tuesday, February 17, 2026 | 7:00 p.m.
Fuld Hall Common Room

Play Reading is a popular activity that brings the Institute community together to read plays. The group meets at 7:00 p.m. on several evenings during the year in the Fuld Hall Common Room. The readings are not performances, so you do not need to be experienced. Everyone is given a part to read, but if you prefer to just listen, come and sit back with a glass of wine and some nibbles and enjoy the evening. All are warmly welcome!

We will be reading Einstein's Gift, by Vern Thiessen (2003). Following the life and work of German chemist and Nobel laureate Fritz Haber through the recollections of Founding IAS Professor (1933–55)  Albert Einstein, the play addresses the connections between pure and applied science, and faith and nationalism. It explores the balance between career ambition and morals by juxtaposing two brilliant scientists with opposing views about their common discipline.
