Institute Film Series

The film A Separation (2011) is written and directed by Asghar Farhadi. A married couple are faced with a difficult decision, to improve the life of their child by moving to another country or to stay in Iran and look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimers. Winner of the Golden Bear for Best Film at the Berlin Film Festival as well as the Academy Award and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film, A Separation evokes with subtlety the moral dilemmas, social tensions, and legal complications faced by a middle-class couple willing to divorce in contemporary Iran.

Original Persian title: Judāyī-i Nādir az Sīmīn. The film runs 2 hours and 3 minutes.

Post-screening discussion will be led by a Member in the School of Social Science; reception to follow in the Fuld Hall Common Room

This movie is the first film in the Law and the Social Sciences series curated by the School of Social Science. Additional screenings in this sub-series are scheduled for November 9 and December 7, titles to be announced later.

The event is free and open to the Institute community. Please note that food and drink are not allowed in Wolfensohn Hall.
