Art History Lecture

The Institute's 2018–19 Art History Lecture Series kicks off at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 12, with a public lecture by former Member Eric Michaud, Directeur d’Études at the Ecole des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales and former Member in the School of Historical Studies.

Michaud will give a public talk titled “The Barbarian Invasions: A Genealogy of the History of Art,” examining the field of art history during the nineteenth century, when the “barbarian” invasions of the fifth century in Europe were examined anew, and describing how the racial and ethnic links woven between artists and their works are still active today.

The talk will be live streamed via www.ias.edu/livestream.
