IAS Physics Group Meeting

AdS Collider Physics

The Institute for Advanced Study requires that all adult visitors, collaborators, conference and on-campus seminar attendees and outside vendors coming to the Institute are required to have completed a COVID-19 vaccination and booster in order to enter the IAS campus. Individuals must be prepared to present proof of vaccination if asked and are expected to follow the Institute's Covid-19 Procedures. Masks are optional while indoors.

Abstract: I’ll discuss ongoing work using simple correlators (three and four point functions) to image the bulk metric, and point particles moving in it, dual to an arbitrary excited state of a field theory.  A sharp image is produced only when the state and theory are holographic. The key tool is conformal Regge theory. I will try to review how it generalizes the eikonal approximation in three important examples: weakly coupled scalar theories, gauge theories, and strongly coupled holographic field theories.  These examples will show how certain dynamical properties (a large-N expansion and the absence of light higher-spin operators) are crucial to focus bulk light rays to sub-AdS resolution.

Papers to be discussed include https://arxiv.org/pdf/2209.00008.pdf for scalar theories and the classic Brower-Polchinski-Strassler-Tan paper https://arxiv.org/pdf/hep-th/0603115.pdf for gauge theories.
