Network Storage Space

Network storage space is provided for all School of Math Faculty, Visiting Scholars, and Staff. All users are encouraged to use this storage space to save their data, as it is backed up regularly throughout the day, week, and month using snapshots. A snapshot is a copy of a set of files and directories as they were at a particular point in the past. Snapshots are automatically taken several times throughout the day and provide different revisions of your files, giving you more options for file version recovery. To recover data from backups, please see the instructions from here.

Please do not store files on the local hard drive of your IAS office computer. If you choose to do so, please back up your files regularly, as the Math Computing Group does not back up data stored on the local hard drives.

On Campus:

When users sign in to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux workstation in their IAS office, their home directory is automatically mounted on the workstation. All files created on these workstations are automatically saved in the user's network home directory.

Off Campus or from your own desktop or laptop computer while on campus:

When attempting to access your IAS home directory from off campus or from your desktop or laptop computer, you have the following options:

  1. SSH connection (Linux, Mac OS X and Windows) - This command line interface (CLI) solution allows you to connect to your IAS home directory and work directly on your files with other CLI applications or tools.
