Stavros Niarchos Foundation Membership

With support from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF), the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) will host a Member in Hellenic Studies in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 academic years. The SNF’s grant will meaningfully contribute to the field of Hellenic Studies by accelerating the research and professional growth of illustrious young scholars who have the capacity and knowledge to transform the field.

The SNF Membership will be awarded to a successful IAS applicant representing any field within Hellenic Studies in the School of Historical Studies or Social Science. First priority will be given to Greek applicants who are junior scholars. In the event that no scholar who fits these criteria is selected, the Membership will be awarded to: 1) a Greek citizen at any career level, or 2) a scholar from a country other than Greece, ideally at the junior level. If the selected Member returns to Greece after the conclusion of their residence at the IAS, an additional $20,000 in support from the SNF will be provided for the continuation of their research in Greece. The first SNF Member in the School of Historical Studies was Georgia Mallouchou, PhD, who was in residence for the 2020-21 academic year.

Scholars who hold Greek citizenship are invited to apply for Membership. Information on the application procedures can be found here: School of Historical Studies and School of Social Science.

Inquiries can be addressed to Professor Angelos Chaniotis, School of Historical Studies (achaniotis@ias.edu).
