IAS CMP/QFT Group Meeting
Anomalous Wess–Zumino Quantization in Two Dimensions
Abstract: Anomalies can modify the quantization of topological couplings, as occurs in the three-dimensional parity anomaly. We will discuss a two-dimensional analogue in sigma models with Majorana-Weyl fermions and compact Lie group targets. By explicitly computing the Pfaffian holonomy of the fermionic path integral, we derive a shift in Wess–Zumino level quantization that varies continuously with the target-space connection. We further discuss implications for supersymmetric sigma models.
