How to configure your Apple iPad or iPhone to access your IAS mailbox via IMAP

In addition to configuring your iPhone or iPad device to connect to your IAS mailbox via an ActiveSync connection, you can also configure these devices to connect to your IAS mailbox with a standard IMAP connection. When configuring your device to use a standard IMAP connection, you will only be able to sync your email messages.

These instructions configure the iPhone Mail application to use a standard IMAP connection for mail transfer. Instructions for configuring the Mail application to use ActiveSync are also available.

  1. Tap on the Settings icon.
  2. Tap on Passwords & Accounts.
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Other.
  5. Tap Add Mail Account.
  6. Enter the following values for your new account:

Name: Enter your full name here.
Email: Enter your IAS email address (e.g. jdoe@ias.edu) here.
Password: Enter your IAS password here.
Description: Enter IAS Email here.

  1. Tap Next in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  2. In the next screen, IMAP should be selected by default. Enter the following values for your Incoming Mail Server:

Host Name: mail.ias.edu
User Name: Enter your IAS username. This is the portion of your IAS email address before the @ sign. For example, if your IAS email address is jdoe@ias.edu, your IAS username is jdoe.

  1. Scroll down and enter the following values for your Outgoing Mail Server:

Host Name: smtpauth.ias.edu
User Name: Enter your IAS username. This is the portion of your IAS email address before the @ sign. For example, if your IAS email address is jdoe@ias.edu, your IAS username is jdoe.
Password: Enter your IAS password

  1. Tap Next.
  2. When Mail has finished verifying your account settings, tap Save.
  3. You will return to the Passwords & Accounts screen.
  4. Test your account now to make sure everything is working to your satisfaction.
