Institute for Advanced Study/Princeton University Early Universe/Cosmology Lunch Discussion

Topic 1: Aemulus nu: hybrid effective field theory in a w\nuCDM parameter space Topic 2: Model agnostic analysis of galaxy redshift surveys

Abstract 1: In this talk I'll give an overview of the Aemulus \nu simulations: a suite of 150 N-body simulations in a w\nuCDM parameter space. These simulations take advantage of synergies between lagrangian perturbation theory in order to mitigate a number of issues related to simulation based forward modeling, including discreteness errors and sample variance due to finite simulation volumes. I'll also discuss the new hybrid effective field theory emulator that we have built from these simulations, which will be used in a number of upcoming analyses combining DESI clustering with galaxy and CMB lensing.

Abstract 2: Precision cosmology offers the promise of doing precision tests of fundamental physics with cosmological data. But standard cosmological analysis are basically parameter fitting done within a model chosen a priori. Can one test the model? While fully model independent analyses may not be viable, I will present a model-agnostic way to analyse galaxy redshift surveys. This opens up the possibility to perform map-based blind analyses of clustering and to test key aspects of the (standard) cosmological model.
