Arithmetic Homogeneous Spaces

I will explain a conjectural generalisation of Ihara's lemma in the theory of modular forms to higher dimensional automorphic forms and sketch how this conjecture implies the Sato-Tate conjecture for rational elliptic curves with somewhere multiplicative reduction.
