On the Performance of High-Order Methods in Astrophysical Scenarios
This study evaluates the performance and applicability of the high-order Spectral-Difference (SD) method in astrophysical contexts. We begin by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of SD relative to the widely used Finite-Volume (FV) methods. Subsequently, we compare high-order and low-order approaches to identify scenarios where high-order methods offer practical benefits. Our findings should help the community in the selection of numerical schemes for complex astrophysical simulations.
