Beginning Course: Toni Bluher, NSA

Biography: Toni Bluher is a senior subject matter expert in cryptography at the National Security Agency, where she has worked since 1995. She was twice awarded the Presidential Meritorious Rank Award by President Obama and she was named the 2015 NSA Researcher of the Year. She frequently mentors undergraduates in NSA's Director's Summer Program, and is a past president of NSA's oldest learned society, the Crypto-Mathematics Institute.

Toni received an honors B.S. in math from Indiana University in 1983, then completed Part III of the mathematical tripos at Cambridge University on a Winston Churchill Scholarship. She received a Ph.D. at Princeton University in 1988, specializing in automorphic forms. She held postdoctoral positions at UCLA (1998-1992) and Stanford (1992-1994) prior to coming to the NSA. She and her husband Greg have three children and two grandchildren, and they live in Ellicott City, MD.
