Workshop on Recent Developments in Symplectic Dynamics
A staircase for the Gromov width of Finsler co-sphere bundles over $RP^2$
In recent years, many symplectic staircases have been discovered by studying the smallest scaling of a suitable target four-manifold into which an ellipsoid $E(1,a)$ can be symplectically embedded. Such staircases reveal the coexistence of symplectic rigidity and flexibility.
In this talk, I will describe a staircase of a different kind, arising from deforming the target rather than the domain. It is given by the Gromov width of so-called "Katok ellipsoids" in $T^*RP^2$, which are co-disc bundles of the Katok Finsler metrics on $RP^2$. I will also compare it with $T^*S^2$ where such a staircase doesn't exist.
This is joint work with Johannes Hauber and Felix Schlenk.
