Embedding Symplectic Ellipsoids and Diophantine equations

This talk will explain work stemming from a group project that investigated the ellipsoidal embedding capacity function for the family of Hirzebruch surfaces. This problem turns out to have unexpected arithmetic structure, leading to an intricate fractal pattern of interweaving staircases. To my knowledge, it is the first example of this kind. The talk will be descriptive and elementary.
