Hölder Maps Under Distributional Constraints

There are many example of (Hölder)-continuous functions with a.e. vanishing derivative which are non-constant, e.g. the Devil's staircase. However any Hölder continuous function with a vanishing distributional derivative is constant. This distinction reappears in higher dimensions, e.g. homeomorphisms with a.e. Jacobians -- and we will discuss applications to a question by Gromov of finding Hölder embeddings of high-dimensional objects into the Heisenberg groups.
