Application Guidelines

The School of Mathematics at the Institute for Advanced Study invites applications from collaborators who would like to meet during the summer to further their research project. Thanks to a generous grant from the National Science Foundation, we provide travel funds, local housing, per diem, working space, and excellent library and computer facilities for up to five small groups (of 2-4 people each, all having PhDs) for periods of 2 to 3 weeks during the summer (specifically between June 15 - July 31). Our campus is located in Princeton, New Jersey, about an hour from New York City and Philadelphia. We encourage applications from those with limited access to other research funding. In order for us to accommodate the greatest number of selected applicants, we ask that any member of your group who has external financial support to please access those funds first. The application deadline is December 1, and successful applicants will be notified in February. Please email any questions to summercollaborators@math.ias.edu

Application (lead collaborator will submit the following):

  • Cover letter – Please include a list of all collaborators with affiliations and email addresses. Please note at least one collaborator must be currently at a US institution.
  • Research statement – Upload a one-page summary of the proposed math research.
  • Publication list – Any supporting documentation for the math you would like to research at IAS.
  • An ORCID is needed to complete the application.
  • The lead collaborator will enter the collaborator names and e-mail addresses in the Collaborators sections. To add additional names, click on the green arrow. Reminder: at least one collaborator must be from a US institution.
  • CV of each member of the group – The lead collaborator will attach their individual CV to the application; MathPrograms will then send each individual collaborator an email to solicit their CVs.
  • A list of agreed-upon dates to meet – We suggest 3 sets of dates for periods of between 2 to 3 weeks between June 15 through July 31, in order of priority.
  • Information regarding funding (NSF, etc.) – Each collaborator will be asked to provide details of external funding which can be used to help with their support.
  • Confirmation from each member of the group – A checkbox to confirm intent to participate will be included in the MathPrograms email.
