How to configure Mail (OS X - latest version) for IAS Email - IMAP

Please note that these instructions are for connecting to IAS email accounts belonging to users in the School of Historical Studies, School of Social Science and IAS Administration.

  1. Start the Mail application.
  2. If you are running the application for the first time, you will be asked to add settings for an account automatically and can skip to step 5. Otherwise, continue to step 3.
  3. Select Preferences… from the Mail menu.
  4. Click on the Accounts tab and click the plus sign (+) on the lower left
  5. Select "Other Mail Account" and click on the Continue button.
  6. Enter the following:
    • Full Name: enter your Full Name
    • Email Address: enter your IAS email address (e.g., jdoe@ias.edu).
    • Password: enter your IAS password.
  7. Click on the Sign In button. If a "Verify Certificate" window appears, click on the "Connect" button.
  8. Select IMAP from the dropdown list next to Account Type.
  9. If you see a field called "Description", enter IAS Email
  10. Enter mail.ias.edu as the Incoming Mail Server.
  11. Enter smtpauth.ias.edu as the Outgoing Mail Server.
  12. Click on the Sign In button.
  13. You may see a "Select the apps you want to use" dialog.
  14. Click on the Done button.
  15. You may now change the description for the account if you wish by clicking in the Description field and changing the contents.
  16. Close the Accounts dialog window to see your mail.
