Beyond Crossover features clarinetist David Krakauer with pianist Marija Stroke, accordionist Will Holshouser, and bassist Nicki Parrott performing the music of composers Leos Janacek, Johannes Brahms, Olivier Messiaen, Steve Reich, and Claude Debussy.  In addition, there will be a set of traditional klezmer music.

A Concert Talk, "Jewish Music and the Electric Electic," featuring Mark Slobin, Professor of Music at Wesleyan University, will take place on Friday, October 5, at 4 p.m. in the West Building Lecture Hall. No tickets are needed for this event.

Hannah Pape, and Heide Schwarz—mesmerizes its
audiences through innovative programming that juxtaposes contemporary and early music.
Performing on upwards of 20 different recorders of varying sizes and shapes during the course of a typical performance, the Quartet transports the listener into new sonic worlds, confirming the traditional
recorder’s viability as a modern classical instrument.  The group will be performing the music of Bach and Bruckner, early music composers Thomas Tompkins, John Dowland and Samuel Scheidt, and contemporary composers Petros Ovsepyan, Gordon Beeferman, Chiel Meijering, and Institute Artist-in-Residence Paul Moravec, whose Mortal Flesh will receive its world premiere.

A Concert Talk, "The High Male Voice: Castrato, Countertenor, and Male Alto," will be presented by legendary countertenor Russell Oberlin on Friday, March 7 at 4 p.m. in the Dilworth Room.  No tickets are needed for this event.

In 2004, Oberlin's performing career was the subject of a Canadian film, Russell Oberlin: America's Legendary Countertenor.  He was a pioneer in the early music revival in America, and those attending the talk will hear some of his classic recordings from the 50s and 60s.  This presentation, which will have a question-and-answer period, may touch on subjects including Oberlin's performing career, his role as a founding member of the New York Pro Musica Antiqua, and his work with such musical giants as Leonard Bernstein, Glenn Gould, and Robert Shaw.
