Field of Study: Islamic Studies
Research Description: My research focuses on three main fields of interest. First, on Islamic intellectual history, especially modernism (19th-20th centuries) as well as on modern appropriations of classical concepts. Second, on Shiite Islam in general and Sunnite-Shiite relations in particular, and on the role of politics in theological reasoning. And third, on Islam in Europe and the various problems related to Muslim presence in a secular environment.
