Research Description: Nathanael Andrade’s current research explores how the location of Roman imperial Syria on commercial networks between the Mediterranean and Indian ocean worlds enhanced the prestige value of local or regional forms of language and culture and helped facilitate the dissemination of Syriac as a mainstream Syrian language in late antiquity.
