Research Description: Jungwon Kim is examining socio-cultural-legal aspects of late Choso˘n Korea (1392–1910) by locating legal agencies of the state, local authorities, and clientele in the making of early modern Korean local courts. Her study utilizes legal archives as a lens through which to view the interactions between local courts and society.
