Songs of the Fertile Crescent (RESCHEDULED FROM NOV 1)

This concert will feature the world premiere of a suite of arias from the new opera Territories (libretto by Palestinian American playwright Betty Shamieh, music by Andreia Pinto-Correia), a selection of music by Bushra El-Turk (Lebanon) and Füsun Köksal (Turkey), as well as traditional songs from the Fertile Crescent. The concert will be followed by an onstage discussion by the musicians along with Pinto-Correia, Shamieh, and Köksal.

Songs of the Fertile Crescent is curated by Andreia Pinto-Correia and is part of the five-month festival The Fertile Crescent: Gender, Art, and Society, a program of the Institute for Women and Art at Rutgers in partnership with the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University, the Arts Councils of Princeton and West Windsor, and the East Brunswick, New Brunswick, and Princeton Public Libraries. Fertile Crescent is conceived, curated, and directed by Judith K. Brodsky and Ferris Olin, Directors of the Institute for Women and Art at Rutgers.
