Bloomberg Hall, named in honor of former Institute for Advanced Study Trustee Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York and Founder of Bloomberg L.P., was dedicated today on the Institute’s campus on Einstein Drive in Princeton, New Jersey. The building is the new home of the Institute’s School of Natural Sciences, which provides a unique atmosphere for research in broad areas of theoretical physics.

There will be a screening of Fermat's Last Tango at the Institute for Advanced Study on May 14 at 8:00 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus. The musical fantasy is based on the story of Princeton University mathematician Andrew Wiles and his proof of Fermat’s Last Theorem—a problem that had puzzled mathematicians since the 17th century.

Violinist and composer Mari Kimura will perform at the Institute for Advanced Study on May 11 at 7:00 p.m. The outdoor concert will take place in the Institute’s Birch Garden.

Arnold J. Levine, one of the world’s leading cancer researchers, will speak on “Genomics and Cancer” on May 1 at the Institute for Advanced Study. The lecture, which will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus, is sponsored by the Institute’s Program in Theoretical Biology.

Peter C. Doherty, Nobel laureate and chair of the Department of Immunology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., will speak on “Dealing With Virus Infections” on April 24 at the Institute for Advanced Study. The lecture, sponsored by the Program in Theoretical Biology, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus.

Doherty will discuss ways in which the immune system combats viral infections, and review some of the major discoveries and advances of modern immunology.

Martti Ahtisaari, President of the Republic of Finland from March 1994 to February 2000, will give a lecture entitled "Can Our Democracies Rise to the Global Challenges of the 21st Century?" on April 17 at the Institute for Advanced Study. The talk, sponsored by the Institute's School of Historical Studies and the Director's Office, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus.

Partha S. Dasgupta, who chairs the Faculty of Economics and Politics at Cambridge University, will speak on "Wealth and Well-Being" on April 16 at the Institute for Advanced Study. The talk, which is co-sponsored by the School of Social Science and the Program in Theoretical Biology, will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute Campus.

Pianist Robert Taub will perform at the Institute for Advanced Study on April 10, 12, and 13 at 8:00 p.m. The concerts will take place in Wolfensohn Hall on the Institute campus.

Taub's program will include Beethoven's Sonata in E-flat major, Op. 81a ("Das Lebewohl"); Davidsb�ndlert�nze, Op. 6, by Schumann; the Concert Paraphrase of "Rigoletto" (Verdi-Liszt); and Reflections, for piano and synthesized tape, by Milton Babbitt.

Jon Magnussen, artist in residence at the Institute for Advanced Study, conducted the world premiere performance of his new score for the revival of Jos� Lim�n's ballet, Psalm, performed by the Jos� Lim�n Dance Company at the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Arts Festival. Under Magnussen's direction were members of the Weber State University Choir and local professional musicians.
